Spring Break in CA

Erica and I took a little trip up to Sonoma to do a little wine tasting and to relax. Here are some fun photos from our trip. Don't ask where we went....Erica did most of that research so by this point I've forgotten!



We stayed so long at one of the vineyards that they locked us in...we found a way out, but not before snagging this photo:

Dental School

Sometimes dental school really is great and you get a lot accomplished - like spring break last week. Other times...not.

Erica requested a people photo. A while back I borrowed dad's flash and wanted to play around with the lumiquest softbox I bought. Lighting here is a mixture from window and fill light from below...

Snow!

Kyle asked for a show shot, so he got it. Taken with the rented 65mm macro lens, this photo is of a few slightly-melted snowflakes in my parent's backyard. Not quite tack-sharp as I'd like, but this was handheld and my first time playing with macro. yes, I have more excuses if needed.

Not sure how zoomed this was, I'm guessing around 4:1 or 5:1...

So as you can see, I had a lot of fun with the macro stuff this weekend. You basically need a flash, or need to shoot almost into the sun to get enough light for a hand-held tack sharp photo.

Tulip petals shot at ~1:1.  Hard to get over how narrow the depth of field is!
